La generacion de electricidad en Chile se basa principalmente en centrales hidraulicas y termicas; sin embargo en los ultimos anos se han hecho viables algunas alternativas de generacion de energia mediante recursos renovables no convencionales, como son la energia eolica y la geotermica, que presentan la posibilidad de diversificar la matriz energetica y de generar energia de manera mas amigable con el medio ambiente. La diversificacion del sistema es necesaria para no depender fuertemente de combustibles (que no se producen en el pais) o condiciones climaticas (sequias). Si bien hasta hace poco ninguna alternativa de Energias Renovables No Convencionales (ERNC) resultaba lo suficientemente atractiva en Chile, en los ultimos anos se han ido haciendo atractivas gracias a las alzas de los precios de los combustibles, la disminucion de los costos de instalacion de estas tecnologias, y la importancia que se esta dando al medio ambiente (incentivos mediante Leyes y MDL). Este libro presenta algunas caracteristicas necesarias para que el desarrollo de un parque eolico sea lo suficientemente atractivo en Chile, asi como algunas dificultades que enfrenta este tipo de proyectos.
