I grew up using the cone shaped mill with the wooden pestle. This is the first that I've used the crank type. It worked well for the applesauce that I made and I would recommend it. The only negative for me was cleaning it. The apple peels stuck to the grid and it was hard to clean them off. Overall, it's a good product and I would recommend purchasing it.

This is a great food mill at a very reasonable price. It is very well made, easy to use, and it cleans up with little effort. So far I have only made applesauce with it, but the process was quick and easy, and the mill extracted more applesauce from 3 pounds of apples than I ever got with my old conical strainer with wooden masher. I expect great results when I mash potatoes with it.

I like the metal bowl on this food mill. The rubberized parts keep the thing from slipping while you're cranking. My only wish was that the bend in the handle were higher up so I could chop off the handle and use it with an electric drill. I did that with a cheaper food mill which was made of plastic. It worked well motorized but I could see some shreds of plastic coming off. I love my Oxo mandolin.

I have used this to remove seeds from, and to juice red raspberries to put into homemade ice cream. I do miss the little gizmo on the bottom of my old food mill that circled and swept the food off the bottom of the strainer. I use a rubber cleaner on the bottom now.
