This is a wonderful movie. It completes the story of the King of Swing, Benny Goodman, who in his day was as popular as any Rock star or Pop artist of today. It's additionally great that they got Steve Allen to play the lead because he has a music background. I only would have liked to have them work with him more on appropriate fingering for the clarinet. It's also nice to see other stars of the Big Bands like Harry James in guest starring roles.

I'm a fan of Big Band music from the late 30s, 40s and 50s so I was satisfied with the great music of Benny Goodman and assorted musicians in hi band. It's the music that kept my interest more than the acting. Highly recommended!

First saw this movie when it was originally in theaters. As a former big band drummer, this movie brings back a lot of wonderful memories. Of course I was a local musician only but I did play with several territory "Big Bands". Music unfortunately will never be the same. Steve Allen was great in the role of Benny Goodman and of course all the clarinet was played by Benny Goodman.
I bought "The Benny Goodman Story" a few weeks ago. It provided me with a pathway through memory lane to my days when I was playing with an orchestra in the Philippines. We played Big Band Era music and Benny Goodman's music was among them. Specifically, I wanted to hear again "Memories of You." It was one of our theme songs. I last played with our orchestra in 1956. I will collect Big Band Era music including those of Glenn Miller, Harry James, etc. They bring memories of an era of my life that I enjoyed very much. I am now 70 1/2 years old and I still play my clarinet and saxophone.
Great Story, and Great music. He was my hero when I was a teenager, I have some 50 years playing Clarinet on and off. His name was Benjamin Davis. He changed it to Benny Goodman later on. Too bad there was no 2nd part. Great movie with-out cussing, heavy Sex, and nudes. I want on more to the 50th Rock and Roll, and still play them. It show what 4 to 5 hours of practice does aday. Great family movie, and those who love the Big Bands era. He was a out standing clarinet player. Dr. Michael White is still alive, and also is great in his own way. Check him out.
