    I personally am a large fan of the Vulcan culture and way of life. This book is great because you get to see a lot of the that world behind closed doors. Learn about Mr.Spock's great lineage and that even the most "civilized and emotionless" peoples, still have their very human struggles to overcome. And the character of Mr.Spocks father, Sarek is forced to deal with his dying wife, keeping on speaking terms with half-Vulcan son and maintain his station as ambassador and attend to matters of diplomacy. And keeping the destruction of the Federation at bay, itself! A very labyrinth of a story at times, with many twists and turns, a few moments of monotonous conversation between characters but it all leads up to a great and conclusive ending.
