Genuinely chuffed, was a bit nervous as I haven’t really bought much of eBay before let alone a camera. Sent the films off and when the photos and scans came back I was delighted. The camera works a treat.

Good camera but,
I owned a Canon AE1 about fifteen years ago and, I thought it was a good well made SLR camera that produced very good results. After using it for a couple of years, I was quite happy with it, that was until I got my hands on the excellent pentax ME super. Within a few months I'm afraid the AE1 was sold on without too much regret. For me personally the ME super is smaller, lighter, and just generally feels better in the hands and has the LEDs instead of the older type match needle metering. The ME super also has another ace up it's sleeve. If the batteries go flat, you can still carry on shooting because it has one mechanical shutter speed 1/125th second. The AE1 is completely battery dependant, so if they go flat the camera is dead in the water. I don't want to denigrate the AE1 because it ... Great product, a few unnecessary features, but overall very good
The manual for the camera is fairly dense and there are plenty of random features which are quiet confusing but overall the camera is great, takes great photos and the fundamentals are easy to use.

A good robust film SLR
I bought this Canon AE1 35 mm film camera recently, having sold my original more than 20 years ago. It is a solidly build, robust, SLR that is easy to use. It has no auto-focus, and you focus by rotating a ring on the lens barrel. There is a rather satisfying wind-on level, rather than the electric auto-wind on some newer cameras. Metering is either shutter-priority or manual, and I have a very slight regret that it does not have aperture-priority metering too. (I would need an A1 for that). Nevertheless it is just what I wanted, as it is a film camera that just feels right in the hand. The camera that I bought had been recently serviced and had the light seals replaced, yet it was still being offered as "buy it now" at a reasonable price. It has no sign of the "Canon cough" or squeal ... I bought this Canon AE1 35 mm film camera recently, having sold my original more than 20 years ago. Some purist afficionados might prefer the older breech-lock lens, but I was just happy to get one in pristine condition. I believe that the he lens design changed soon after this camera was first introduced. The 50 mm f1.8 lens that comes with these cameras is as sharp as you'll ever get. Ask the seller whether there are any scratches on the glass or signs of fungus between the lens elements. Since I bought my camera it has fallen out of my camera bag onto concrete. It bounced with not a mark on it and still works like new. Built like a tank! The later Canon AE1 Program also offered a truly automatic exposure function. These later cameras are slightly more expensive than mine, but I didn't need this level of automation.

Considering how much these go for, now they are back in fashion, I got an excellent deal! It arrived very well packaged and the camera is in great condition. I was also sent the battery needed. It is not hard to focus and although I haven't had pictures developed yet, I'm sure they will come out great. It is not light or small, but it feels incredibly sturdy and is lovely to use. Of you don't regularly use analogue cameras or don't know much about them, this is a great place to start.Considering how much these go for, now they are back in fashion, I got an excellent deal!
