The most modern mobile I could find that still takes standard SIM cards.
£32 for an unlocked phone that runs Android 4.1.2 (It came with Android 2; I had to do the upgrade, which was easy) with a standard SIM card can't be bad. Battery life fine, a day or two between charges which is about par for the course. For a ten-year-old phone, it punches well above its weight. Excellent camera - if slightly sluggish (only slightly), very acceptable sound recorder, I use the All Reader app for PDFs and eBooks. Games? No thanks, don't care. Google apps? No thanks, but you can't delete them without crippling the other web functionality. The music player is a bit fiddly, and it won't play some video formats, but I think this is more due to proprietary lock downs than any fault with the OS design. The screen seems to attract a lot of finger grease deposits, and the shiny bezel on this particular item is worn. For £32 inc. postage and a bit of foo ter ing about with Odin. ex e I'm not complaining one bit. Who needs the future?

Having accepted that the phone was a refurbished unit, and obviously had wear and tear, it was disappointing to see it was quite so scratched. That I would have philosophically accepted, but after inserting my SIM when it came to setting it up it kept on repeating 'No SIM'. Eventually having overcome that I found it had numerous photo and video files from previous user, and it wouldn't accept incoming calls, neither was I able to make any calls, despite the display showing signal strength as High. Amazing value for money, I love this phone!
This is now my first smartphone, I bought it after my old phone started to get a bit old and battered and just wasn't useable anymore. I was a bit sceptical at first and it just seemed too cheap! But honestly it's the best phone I've ever had. It's very user friendly, so quick and easy to use and so many features, of which most of them I'm still exploring. So far it hasn't had any glitches. I guess the only downside is that the battery life only lasts one or two days at best, but that was to be expected and it's not a big problem. Good performance and affordable price.
This phone is an excellent balance between performance and affordability. At between £180-£220 its not too much for most budgets and on ebay I bought mine for £166 as a new unopened unwanted which was an unwanted gift. The Ace 2 has ironed out the weaknesses of its Ace predecessor by increasing the internal memory size, increasing the battery capacity, fitting a really fast dual core processor and a larger screen. So far I have not had any problems with running out of phone memory or battery endurance and the lag time is not noticeable most of the time.
