Perfect companion for serious amateurs
I used Canon 10D DSLR as my main camera for years. As time went, however, I was taking the camera out less and less often, mainly because it was to heavy to carry around (especially if you're walking a lot on a trip). I was introduced to Ricoh GX-100 by a friend who bought it. At first, the main attraction was the black, retro-look that makes the camera stand out from the usual shiny-silver point & shoot cameras. I began reading reviews to find out more about the camera, and initially gave up buying this because of the noise you get at high ISOs. I eventually changed my mind based on two things. First, I really wanted to have a serious, no-nonsense small camera that I can carry around. Second, I found out that many other owners of GX-100 tend to think the inherent limitations of the ... So I bought the camera off the eBay - the previous owner took very good care of the camera, which was in a pristine condition on its arrival. I regret that I didn't get the VF-1 kit a little bit, but for what I've got I think it was a good deal nonetheless. If you already own a versatile but heavy DSLR and want to get a lightweight camera that provides total control over your images and is easy to carry around, GX-100 is one of the strongest candidates in the field, along with other serious compacts like Sigma DP-1. Kudos to Ricoh for producing such idiosyncratic models as GX-100, GRD, GRD2, etc.

Wouldn't want to change to another brand!
A compact digital camera that thinks it's an SLR. Definitely wanted to replace like with like when my 6 year old one ran into a few problems - probably caused by exstensive knocks and loss of thumb pad on back allowing humidity into electrics. Never without it, fits in handbag or pocket

Creative photography in a small package.
I think this camera is superb! Full manual control with a very intuitive interface including customisable functions. I wasn't expecting much from the dng raw file that a sensor of this size could produce but was pleasantly surprised, although it will about 5 second to write to an sandisk extreme 3 card, the dynamic range was great, pulling back burnt out highlights, restoring detail in blacks and taking multiple exposures from the raw file for hdr style photography. There are certain limits to the camera, although it has anti-shake feature on the sensor the low light performance with a little poor when it comes to boosting the iso past 400, resulting in a fairly noisy image. Although the noise (particularly in raw) is more reminiscent of film-like grain then other more harsh noise reducing ... I think this camera is superb! Great little camera
I bought this camera primarily as a digital view finder for my large format setup. It has a neat little set-zoom feature that tells you what the focal length each step would be in the equivalent 35mm lens. its great for finding compositions without having to set the whole LF kit up before hand. As well as the above it performs really well as a general p&s camera, but also has some easily accessible options so you can choose the aperture or shutter speed when you want to. The only thing I didn't really get on with was the digital viewfinder that you can get; the image was a bit fuzzy for my liking.
