Ricoh GX200 - A Great, Small, camera
I was looking for a small compact camera that would be easy to carry at those times when carting a Nikon DSLR system around wasn't going to be an option, i.e. the daily grind, popping down the shops etc. Now, no small sensor camera is going to provide the same quality of image as a DSLR but there are some things which can assist towards getting a good IQ. The Ricoh GX200 has a number of these features: records images in uncompressed RAW format (Adobe DNG format); full manual control over aperture and shutter speed as well as a number of program modes; manual control over the built-in flash (which is powerful for a camera this size); a hotshoe which allows external flash guns to be used and also a clip on viewfinder which is useful in bright sunlight when the LCD screen isn't easy to see. ... I was looking for a small compact camera that would be easy to carry at those times when carting a Nikon DSLR system around wasn't going to be an option, i.e. the daily grind, popping down the shops etc. Now, no small sensor camera is going to provide the same quality of image as a DSLR but there are some things which can assist towards getting a good IQ. The Ricoh GX200 has a number of these features: records images in uncompressed RAW format (Adobe DNG format); full manual control over aperture and shutter speed as well as a number of program modes; manual control over the built-in flash (which is powerful for a camera this size); a hotshoe which allows external flash guns to be used and also a clip on viewfinder which is useful in bright sunlight when the LCD screen isn't easy to see. The camera has an excellent macro mode which allows very close focussing. The lens zoom is between 24mm and 72mm (35mm equivalent) which is fine for most shooting, though this might not be enough for some people. However a longer zoom will mean smaller apertures, longer shutter speeds, greater risk of camera shake (though it does have an image stabilization system built in). The GX200 also has an electronic 'spirit level' to check if the camera is level and a metal tripod thread. The camera can be set up to use all the 12.4M pixels or the image size ratio can be altered to, say take a square format shot (using c9M pixels). There are B+W and toned monochrome options and heaps of other customisable functions (spot metering, moving focus point, bracketing etc., etc., and 3 customisable defaults so a flick of a switch can send the camera straight to a set of pre-arranged settings). If there is one real issue it's that of image noise. Above ISO 200 the noise is very noticeable. This is a problem with squeezing 12M pixels on a small sensor. Canon learnt this with the G10 camera and reduced the number of pixels for the G11 model. I have my GX200 set to ISO 64 and -0.3EV for general shooting and that gets me around most things. Besides, if you shoot in RAW t's possible to rduce noise in photo editing software such as Photoshop or Lightroom. So, a small pocketable camera with masses of control, some really useful features, and a great lens which, with a bit of photo know-how, can produce excellent images. I love mine!

You wil find this a wonderful camera - you won't go wrong in buying one.
This camera has all the features that an advanced photographer would want - from compensation to Raw files. Such a handy size for the pocket, although for me best purchased with an additional electronic viewfinder. Slight lag in the shutter after pressing the release button. Not advised to be used above 800 ISO, although I never want to. Strongly recommended, in fact this is my second one as a backup.This camera has all the features that an advanced photographer would want - from compensation to Raw files. best ratio price/quality possible: I recommend it
it is the third one I buy... simply fantastic. First, I got the Sea&Sea 1G (for underwater picture: exellent = Ricoh GX 100 with a different label) but I've broken the monitor.. so I bounght it again (Ricoh Caplio GX 100); now that is getting older and I do not want to risk to stay without.. so I took the GX 200, even better! they are fantastic for macro, especially if you need to be fast and the use of a reflex takes too much time (I usually have both with me) or you have to walk far and the 2-3 kilos of the reflex+lenses are too many...it is the third one I buy... simply fantastic. Amazing little camera for anyone.
Very very happy with this camera,the build quality is excellent,its so easy to use and the pictures are amazing great colour very natural.Some cameras make the colours too vivid and bright for me but this seems to capture the true colours of what im seeing.If you want a small camera with full manual control and you see it for £200 or less i wouldn't hesitate to buy this camera.
