  • Still the best one volume history of the Eighth Airforce!

I got my first copy of this book in 1972, and I brought it to every event I could find to fill it with the signatures of the men whose stories were told within the book. It occurred to me that the book had become too valuable to take off the shelf very often with the likes of Chuck Yeager, Robert Morgan, and Gabby Gabreski having signed it. I got another copy for reading and reference. Anything by Roger A. Freeman is well worth the price. His knowledge of the men, units, and machines of the Eighth Airforce remains unsurpassed. His interest in the subject began as a boy growing itinerary East Anglia, watching the planes take off on their way to the continent. It was Freeman who coined the phrase, “The Mighty Eighth.”
