  • An excellent trilogy

The Black Guardian trilogy features two of the best Davison stories, with a good story sandwiched in the middle. Mawdryn Undead reintroduces the Brigadier in two different time periods. The plot is complex as a result, but works well and I could not find any logical flaws With it. The only problem is that, during the Pertwee years, it was always assumed that the stories were set in the near future at that time (broadcast in the 70s, but set in the 80s), but this story puts paid to this. Terminus is the weakest story of the three, but still works well. It is fairly standard, but Nyssa shows us her charms before leaving at the end of the story. Enlightenment has always been one of my favourite stories (the reveal at the end of the first episode when the story was broadcast was amazing, which new viewers won’t see, as this is made clear from the covers of the book and DVD). The score is excellent and haunting and the DVD includes a new version of the story that greatly improves the special effects. This story vies with The Caves of Androzani as my favourite Davison story and is one of my favourite ever. Overall I would recommend this trilogy with no reservations whatsoever. Enjoy!

  • great fun.

This is a fondly remembered classic era. Not all the stories are classics but they are entertaining and the black guardian trilogy were three of the highlights of this particular season.

  • One of the best DR WHO adventures of all time.

Really very good, I almost watched this one all the way thru and that I rarely ever do. This classic Dr Who so much better than this reinvented dross. A great DVD set highly recommended to all fans. Peter Davidson shows how a Doctor should be portrayed and is nearly as good as Tom Baker.
