Synopsis
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A powerful true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us, and a clarion call to fix our broken system of justice--from one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time , as seen in the HBO documentary True Justice " Bryan Stevenson's] dedication to fighting for justice and equality has inspired me and many others and made a lasting impact on our country." --John Legend SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING MICHAEL B. JORDAN AND JAMIE FOXX - Named One of the Best Books of the Year by The New York Times - The Washington Post - The Boston Globe - The Seattle Times - Esquire - Time Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn't commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship--and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever. Just Mercy is at once an unforgettable account of an idealistic, gifted young lawyer's coming of age, a moving window into the lives of those he has defended, and an inspiring argument for compassion in the pursuit of true justice. Winner of the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction - Winner of the NAACP Image Award for Nonfiction - Winner of a Books for a Better Life Award - Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize - Finalist for the Kirkus Reviews Prize - An American Library Association Notable Book "Every bit as moving as To Kill a Mockingbird, and in some ways more so . . . a searing indictment of American criminal justice and a stirring testament to the salvation that fighting for the vulnerable sometimes yields." --David Cole, The New York Review of Books "Searing, moving . . . Bryan Stevenson may, indeed, be America's Mandela." --Nicholas Kristof, The New York Times "You don't have to read too long to start cheering for this man. . . . The message of this book . . . is that evil can be overcome, a difference can be made. Just Mercy will make you upset and it will make you hopeful." --Ted Conover, The New York Times Book Review "Inspiring . . . a work of style, substance and clarity . . . Stevenson is not only a great lawyer, he's also a gifted writer and storyteller." -- The Washington Post "As deeply moving, poignant and powerful a book as has been, and maybe ever can be, written about the death penalty." --The Financial Times "Brilliant." --The Philadelphia Inquirer, #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING MICHAEL B. For some reason, the Postal Tracking stopped after the label was created, but I RECEIVED the book I ordered on August 2nd which was within the 7/31 to 8/6 projected delivery range. The sale price was lower than the competition why I chose this Seller. It was well packed, and arrived in the described condition. I would do business, again, with this Seller without hesitation. Thumbs UP!

Another wonderful transaction with this company! I believe this is my 3rd purchase with multiple books in each order and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Books arrived as described - great used condition. Packaging wasn’t great but it’s free shipping and they made it to me intact, so no complaints. The price is unbeatable. Will definitely continue to purchase from them! Highly recommend.

    Absolutely a must read.

This is info I have been aware of for a lot of years, and I'm pleased that Mr. Stevensen has articulated it so well. I'm a 75yr old white conservative woman. Everyone should be aware of what has been happening in our legal system for years. This doesn't mean I am against the police. I grew up a poor child, but I was able to work hard to improve my life. How ever I'm sure it made quite a difference because of the color of my skin, and that's sad. This book is very well written, and I am/have been recommending it to many people. I appreciate the work Mr Stevensen and his team are doing and accomplishing. Thanks for making it more affordable for me. Sincerely Gale Munkelwitz

  • Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

The best book I have ever read about the injustice of our judicial system. This book is even more relevant in today's politicaly charged climate and racism in the Trump era. Bryan pulls no puches in his descrition of incarceration of black Americans and their treatment in our prison system. I highly recomend this book to anyone who wants to get to the critical issues facing African American men in today's resurgence of racism in America.

  • Compelling and relevant.

I read The Sun Does Shine, which affected me greatly, and this is how I became aware of the great Bryan Stevenson. He truly is a modern day, Atticus Finch, only better, because he is very real and has saved countless lives. He deserves and will receive many more accolades.

  • A Very intense book.

This book is heart wrenching at times. It opened my eyes to things I thought I knew but I did not know enough about. Bryan Stevenson is an excellent author.

  • Excellent writing and a compelling subject.

To say that I "enjoyed" reading it would be a misnomer. I was outraged by the content. It is a book that needs to be read by everyone in the U.S. The lack of a "good value" rating has to do with the price. $7.19 seems like a decent price, but the seller should have removed the $.97 Goodwill sticker before sending it out. I'm all for profit, but a 700% profit? No.
