This phone is unbelievable. I upgraded from a Samsung Focus and have nothing but praises for Nokia and Microsoft for delivering a great product. Every feature works as advertised and the ease of the UI makes the experience feels second to none. In addition, the look, shape and size of the phone feels ergonomic and natural to hold. The OS has some catching up to do. Since the software lacks the robustness and some features found in iOS. However, the simplicity and elegance behind it, makes this one of the premier phones in the market. There's a lot to be excited about.
The Lumia 800 might not have the most impressive specs out there, but the truth is it doesn't need them. Windows Phone 7.5 runs really smooth on the Lumia 800 with the mid to high range smartphone specs on it. Personally I've been using Android as my main smartphone OS for quite some time (Android 1.6+), so I can't help but to compare these 2 very different OS's. While Android does have the larger selection of apps available of the 2, Windows Phone feels easier to use and seems to require less hardware to run as smooth as it does on the Lumia 800. The overall look of Windows Phone 7 also looks more polished than any of the current Android versions out there. Even though this review is supposed to focus on the Lumia itself and how it performs as a smartphone, I have to mention its OS because its just that satisfying to use. Now on to other areas. The Lumia 800 has a 8mp, dual led flash camera that uses a Carl Zeiss lens. It takes some good quality pictures, depending on the conditions where you're taking your photos. Even though it only has a single core 1.4Ghz processor, it outperforms most Android devices using similar processors. This as I mentioned before has greatly to do with the Windows Phone 7 OS that runs the Lumia 800. It only comes with 512mb of RAM but you will never notice this because of how smoothly it works. Multitasking is pretty easy and you can go back to other open tasks by holding down the back soft key at the lower left side of the device. It comes with a standard 3.7" AMOLED screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It comes with 16GB of internal memory to deal with but no external memory slot, as with other Windows Phone devices out there. It has bluetooth though you can't send files using this method. Also features GPS, compass, wifi, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and with an update the ability to use your device as a mobile hotspot. I may have left out some stuff but I wanted to make this short. All in all I would, and do, recommend this device to anyone who wants a fast, smoth working device, that also looks slick and feels comfortable in the hand and even in a pocket.Read full review
To start it's my first win phone wich i bought just to see ups and downs to compare it with previous phones i had. Thing that i like about it are tht it's light, can endure rough handling (not that u can run across it with a truck), has a decent amount of memory with a good battery life that enables u to store musics, videos and games and not be worried that u gonna need to enjoy them pluged on adapter all the time. A slight dislike was in it's inability to install some apps that are revoked and made for win8.1 only wich puts a limit on what u can do with your phone... with all said this is phone perfect for anyone who want's calls, messaging, net acces and ability to store and play music video or games wherever and whenever it wants.
It's a very good cellphone but Windows Mobile has now same limitations as iOS: no simple USB connection (you must use Microsoft Zen to transfer music or any file), no file transfer using Bluetooth and some other customizations are not possibles. Nokia was not clear about which 3G bands has this phone: they built two different versions, one 900/1800/1900 and other 850/900/1800/1900. Nokia never did that.
I bought this phone because I owned Nokia in the past. In 2006 I bought Nokia 3230. Then I changed to LG due to dual-sim mode. After LG I decided to return to my favorite trademark. Though Nokia Lumia 800 has only one sim slot, it is very good at price and quality. Most of all I like the shape of the phone - it seems that my hand stretches into the phone naturally. Quite annoying thing about this phone is that battery full charge capacity is lower than stated in specification by the manufacturer. It means that operating time suffers as well. The second disappointing thing is that phone always requires internet connection through Wi-Fi - in Russia there is no such high level of communication - so I have no possibility to search and set up Wi-Fi internet connection anywhere I go. Ringtones are also sophisticated by the manufacturer. I have to cut mp3 melodies to limited volume with special software in order to set them as ringtones. It really sucks especially when the older models of cell phones are much easier to set ringtones. Sure I'd buy this telephone again - to make pleasure to myself or to my relatives.Read full review
