Following on from the bands mid-nineties period, or 'experimental/progressive' for those who liked Diatribes and Inside The Torn Apart. In 98' Napalm went back for the most part to their more Death Metal sound. These songs are not fast enough to be called Grindcore, but these songs come across sounding much heavier than those found on the last two albums. Some of the new sensibilities in incorporating a new sound have carried over to the new material but there are less catchy hooks to add melody, and more to add atmosphere built up by layers of noise like on Next Of Kin To Chaos for example. This approach see's Barneys growls put to good use, where this style of vocals was often out of place with the music on the last two albums. There is variety amongst the songs here which sometimes does not help, but it is obvious that Napalm is on the road back to creating the savage classic tracks they are capable of. If you didn't get the three bonus live tracks don't worry they are crap.Read full review
