I rate collectible coins based on beauty, resale value and , if there is a ready and waiting market for the coin. This is a beautiful coin, with lots of details, on the obverse. It has a very popular historical leader, the liberator of South America; Simon Bolivar. There is a town or city of Bolivar in nearly every state. Whether the 5 Bolivares in bullion grade: vf minus or fine collectible grade: XF plus; this coin is in demand! It is a very nice crown coin and the Morgan dollar of south America, behind the Mexican peso and Peruvian crown type. It has good resale value. The weight, 25 grams is shown on the coin as is the purity or fineness of silver, at LEI.900 or 90 percent with a copper balance. It is the largest pre-WW2 silver coin for Venezuela, the next denomination coin, 10 Bolivares is gold. The 5 Bolivares was equal to 500 centavos. Bullion grade coins move up and down with the price of silver. Dates for silver range coins from 1879 to 1935. Later, the 2 Bolivares was the largest silver coin up to the 1960's, and in 1973 the 5 Bolivar was reintroduced in copper-nickel. The silver version is a great barter coin.Read full review
