About this product

Product Information

In the deep winter snows of a Swedish hamlet, a strange young woman fakes a break-in at the house of an elderly artist in order to persuade her that she needs companionship. But what does she hope to gain by doing this? And who ultimately is deceiving whom? In this portrayal of two women grappling with truth and lies, nothing can be taken for granted. By the time the snow thaws, both their lives will have changed irrevocably.

  • Not to be missed

A quite extraordinary Scandinavian treat. Subtle, moving and cerebral. But don't take my word for it, get yourself a copy for a cracking, chilly story of manners, boat building, rabbits and accountancy!

  • Disappointing

I know Tove Jansson has a reputation for being a bit left field but this was too wacky for my taste, but I thought I would give it a read to see what all the fuss was about but I found it all a bit dreary and odd. Hasn't made me want to read more of her work.
