Author has great insight into the politics of the time.
The Spanish political situation that the characters find themselves in has been well researched,and was interesting. The Public School boys are well portrayed and hero proves to be a reluctant and inept spy. The pace of the story picks up towards the climax but peters out at the end with a slightly disappointing ending. I enjoyed the C.J Sansom books about the Tudors more.
