The dark art of sensor cleaning

I was a little cautious of cleaning the sensor on my Nikon D800, a valuable DSLR. After a little research on youtube, I realised that this was something that I could do. There are loads of videos to watch that fully explain the process, so I bought this kit and had a go. Two drops of ROR on the end of the swab, wipe one way and then back the other way. Took a test image, and all of the specks of dust are gone. Perfect, sigh of relief it worked. I would advise anyone else to spend a couple of hours online looking at the method before having a go, but don't forget at the end of the day you are only cleaning a piece of glass. I did look on the ROR website, and they did not recommend using to "clean sensors", but this is probably just litigation avoidance in their case. If you look who ...

  • No more Spotty Muldoon

Of course you can have your sensor professionally cleaned for about £65, but it’s a lot of hassle with postage, insurance, and being without your camera for days on end. The cleaning kit I bought on-line cost £13 delivered, and has enough cleaning solution and applicator swabs for six cleans, so what’s not to like? When you order your cleaning kit it’s important to order the version with the correct size of swab, so make sure you order FF, APSc or MFT depending on your camera. It’s easy, or should I say it’s simple. In good light remove the camera’s lens to expose the chip. In mirrorless designs the chip is immediately obvious, but if you have a DSLR you’ll need to follow the camera’s cleaning instructions which will engage mirror-up mode, allowing you access to the chip’s surface. ...

  • Simple DIY

This kit is all you need to clean your full frame DSLR sensor. It is simple to use and it's also easy to learn how to clean your sensor. This saves you money in the long run.

  • Great product.

These swabs do the job perfectly.. I have just used them on my Sony a7ii, it took three swabs all wet as it had some very stubborn marks on it. now it is spotless. Highly recommend!!

  • Good but needs two wipes for proper job

The wet wipes clean effectively, but (perhaps inevitably) some tiny blobs of fluid are left behind on the sensor - these evaporate quite quickly but in my case left faint marks which can be seen in images. A second go with a dry wipe seems necessary to ensure the sensor is completely unmarked.
