I have used this laptop for a couple of days. I noticed that the battery is still in good health. I was surprised as this is a 7 year old model. Regardless, the HDD takes a good 2 minutes to load from the minute you press the button. What you can do in this case is replace the HDD with a 256gb SSD. This is still one of those Macbook where you can remove the drives without needing fancy stuff. That really improved my speed for the computer down from 2 minutes to only just 29 seconds. 4x faster for just $50. You have to format it, once you format it, you have to connect to the internet for the laptop to download the OS because there's no other way to transfer the OS or clone the drive. You can set it up completely as new, and it works exactly as fast as one of the newer Macbooks that you might have to dish out at least a thousand. Read full review

unit seems to be running fine. i dropped an ssd and jacked the ram, worth the money i paid. BUT, unit was said to be 9/10! ill go high as 6/7. unit had minor cosmetic flaws, but was absolutely filthy inside n out. im guessin by frequency sound fans are on last leg. just dont think you should tell folks theyre getting piece of wagu and serve them a happy meal. my opinion. again, once cleaned and gone through, worth the money.

I purchased a used 2012 MacBook Pro 13” non-retina display. The device has been upgraded to have a 240gb SSD and 8gbs of ram. The computer is fast and runs Mojave with ease. I also partitioned the drive to have windows 10 as a bootable option as well for programs that are incompatible with macOS.

The last with a built-in CD drive (and I actually prefer the weight, so it doesn't slide around); just wish it had the replaceable battery my older version had - ah well, gone! The computer I got (grade B) is fine (though there's a -little- missing-pixels spot in lower corner not supposed to be there in grade B - but it's hard to find it most of the time, so I'm happy) - not "scared" of grade Bs now. This year upgrades to latest operating systems just fine (that is, it came with Sierra - and I'm glad -not- with High Sierra, which I hear has been problematic to date, late 2017); and transferring all my other files/programs went fine with the Migration Assistant on both computers (if the old computer hadn't been extant, I could have done the transfer from my backup drive, with a little more hassle). I'd recommend it to those who don't have to take their laptop while traveling light. It was a good deal.Read full review

Great computer! This is my second one of this model, after the first one shorted at the power source. I like how you can still replace the batteries and such if you need to, with enough demand to keep aftermarket supplies comming for a few years still. Still their best macbook pro, unless youre gaming or graphic designing, in which case the graphics card and display are lacking. But you can set up an external display with 2k resolution.

This laptop, is great. From a build quality perspective, this computer is solid and well built (even more so than the newer generation of MacBook pros, in my opinion). I bought the 15 inch macbook pro mid 2014 previous to realizing that I over paid for a device that I would barely use, not to mention the constant flimsy feel of the chassis, and the creaks it would emit when I would apply light pressure to it. To me, although the CD drive generation model is bulky, it just feels like a solid, well crafted device, that still offers the performance people are looking for. Display - The display is pretty nice, even though it isn't full HD, with the 13 inch panel, it still looks crisp and clean at 1280x800. Speed/Performance - With the i7 clocked in at 2.9 ghz, and 8 gigs of 1600mhz RAM, everything is buttery smooth, and there are no hiccups at all. The hard-drive, will hang up sometimes being that it is a traditional platter, but it isn't something an SSD can't resolve. Which speaking of SSD, the upgradeability that this generation provides is great, since you can go in and fix issues yourself and swap out parts, where as the new generation doesn't allow for it, or is very limited in what you can do. Overall, for the money, this MacBook is the best bang for the buck, and should not be overlooked even though it is "outdated"(by 1 generation, which really isn't all that big of a deal, if you look from a performance perspective) yeah you miss out on the retina display, and the thin chassis of the newer ones. But this model, makes up for it with the expandability, and lower cost.Read full review
If you’re looking for a good MacBook Pro with reliability and upgradability this is the one. For being a 7 year old machine it performs like It just came out. Everything is upgradable and still supported by Apple. Highly recommend this laptop to anyone on a budget and would like the Mac OS X interface as their daily driver.

Banged up cover but works perfectly. I installed 16 gig memory & sad 1 TB, new battery. It was a good value.

Works great. Since 2012 was the last year Apple made laptops with UPGRADEABLE RAM and HDD/SSD, these 2012's are gonna be worth more than the new ones. And not too many have Core i7 CPUs ... This one is just like new. The only thing wrong with this was memory/ram, replaced and loaded with Mac OS Catalina. Of all the MacBook Pro laptops I have (10), this is the best of them all.
