Seller notes: “This is a fine quality antique English late 17th Century William & Mary solid oak & fruitwood ... “This is a fine quality antique English late 17th Century William & Mary solid oak & fruitwood geometric moulded chest of drawers, circa 1680 - 1700, constructed in two parts, with stunning colour, in excellent overall condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass pear-drop handles, foliate backplates and coat of arms key escutcheons are old replacements. The drawers retain the original oak drawer linings. There are working locks to all four drawers (with a key). The chest stands on later replacement bun feet at the front, with the original length stiles to the rear. Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. The sides, backboards and floor on the chest are original. Two additional horizontal oak boards have been added onto the back of the chest to help support the frame. This item is solid in joint and is ready to use.”
