    Not Masterpiece Theater

    These “Carry On” movies from Great Britten are fun but they are uneven. Some way better than others…and humor doesn’t always translate well from one culture to another. I’ve seen about 10 films in the series and Carry on Screaming is my favorite. These two are amusing but the focus on adolescent sexy jokes wears thin. Sometimes it seems like the films were made for 15 year olds…but as I said, humor doesn’t travel well. One good thing to say is: these films use lots of the same actors in the series. They take turns being the “star” and you get a chance to see more of their talents. That said, “Carry On” films are a window into an aspect of English culture you won’t see on Masterpiece Theater. Not as funny to Americans but still interesting.
