About this product

Product Information

A cult writer at his best Beginning in 1967, Bukowski wrote the column Notes of A Dirty Old Man for the underground newspaper Open City. Perennially drunk, broke and in search of a woman, Bukowski takes on the guise of a wise fool as he ventures through America's seedy lowlife. Peopled by Kerouac, Burroughs and other much less salubrious characters, his exploits provoke humour and despair, whilst highlighting the inherent beauty and futility of life.

  • Bukowski's early prose and an insight into his mind

A great book at a bargain price, in very good condition, and well packaged. A collection of Bukowski's columns for Open City newspaper in the late 60s, and as always Hank's mordant and bleak sense of humour is to the fore, strange stories that would be almost Kafkaesque, had not Bukowski hated that word. Well worth reading of you want an insight into his prose style and how it matured and ripened through the years

  • Terrible condition of the book

I received the book in a terrible condition. The package itself was not damaged, thus, I believe the book was damaged before dispatching. One-third of the pages were folded, however, they look better on the pictures as I've straightened them. One page was also torn out.
