UNIDEN Bearcat BC 172XL great receiver but old technology
Here's the issue, many operations like airports, hospitals, fire departments, and police departments have gone digital so you can't tune in their signal with this analog unit. I live close to NYC and Teterboro Airport in NJ. I have gotten quite a few signals in my high density population. Many of you may not, in that case it's just a glorified weather reporter. The usefulness of analog scanners has faded in many areas. I think I would recommend shortwave instead of this and that has traffic reduction challenges as well. The shame is the unit itself is very good quality, very solid, and a good value for the current price point, so the problem is lack of activity not the unit.
