Il paesaggio, plasmato dai processi paralleli di costruzione e distruzione, diventa in questo modo non solo immagine, ma strumento del potere; non solo teatro di guerra, ma arma per combatterla. L'architettura dell'occupazione è dunque un'operazione militare, più lenta e meno visibile di quelle condotte dall'esercito regolare, ma non meno violenta. Dall'analisi di come Israele ha trasformato la gestione dello spazio in strumento di dominio e di controllo scaturisce una lettura nuova dei rapporti tra ambiente, storia e politica, e viene denudata la volontà ideologica che si nasconde dietro questo progetto di occupazione coloniale tardo-moderna.
