      The set looks to be well made except had to machine out arbor nut so it would fit onto collet arbor, I had a lathe so a 5 minute job. Quality control issue

      I think you may be referring to the elliptical ring in the collet holder nut. That is by design so that the collet locates underneath it to ensure it is a perfect fit in the nut. The collet is meant to click into place in the nut before being attached to the holder.
