In an insightful and engrossing book, Fox explains the puzzling behavior of her fellow Englishmen in an informal way that puts other social anthropologists to shame. While she uses some academic lingo, Watching the English is far from being a dry read or a clinical observation of a certain group of people... Despite being more than 400 pages long, Watching the English reads easily, but is still jam-packed with information and tidbits about the English, and non-English readers are bound to at least once exclaim, 'What?! The English really do that?'

  • Biased, but unique.

The author is clear about her left wing views and activities. She accepts juvenile behavior that elsewhere would be sharply corrected. America is the source of much in the English character that troubles her. Still, it it is worth reading because there is nothing else like it.

  • Unnecessarily wordy, not enough fun and No pix at all!

There is humor but oh my to get to it you have to go through page after page of the author's explanation of her study style. Then there aren't any charming photos of the wonderful Englanders!

  • Great laughs

The son of an elderly woman recommended that she read this book for laugh therapy. It was exactly that!
