From the very good "workshop practice series" and written by experts, this book covers the technical and practical skills required to carryout tool and cutter grinding and sharpening. • Disappointing

This was a disappointing book. It assumes throughout that you will build the sharpening jig and the various tool adapters shown in the chapters. Maybe thats a good jig but the description is scanty and refers the reader to a second book on milling for guidance. Drawings are very small too. The jig is apparently suitable for construction in a lathe only workshop.. Although it isnt as the link to the milling book shows. It needs some more explanation of the angles required for tool sharpening and some idea at least as to how to start hand sharpening. The author may be right in dismissing this as less than perfect but its the method used by many. If you must make the jig then this should at least be fully explained and illustrated and the books title and summary should show this for ...

  • simple instructions and easy to read

Harrold Hall is well known for his good use of fixtures and also his inventive mind, this book outlines this in detail and is a must read for any model engineer interested in keeping his cutters sharp, the only small drawback was he only describes the simple grinding rest in this book and the latest version of the rest is much more robust.
