Six English towns- the complete collection
These important architectural programmes are a delight. Alec Clifton-Taylor was the perfect presenter and had unrivalled knowledge, in my opinion! The commentary featuring the series producer, on 3 of the films is excellent too giving insight into these programmes, how they were made and detail on the presenter. The other DVD extra with Alec in discussion. Is also of great interest. These two extras are a great addition to the television work of Alec Clifton-Taylor.These important architectural programmes are a delight. A very scholarly presentation
I remember watching these programmes when originally transmitter and happened upon this DVD. While Alec Clifton-Taylor has his own idiosyncrasies his presentation is far more deep and scholarly than most current presenters who very often seem to be on ego-trips. He is often contemptuous of the way ancient buildings have been modernised or are presented today (or rather when the programmes were made). Really enjoyable series about 18 smaller and interesting towns in England
Remembered this from its first showing in the late 70s. Great programme, and an under-rated presenter who sadly passed away after the last series. A great selection of towns, and interesting to see them before some of them were ruined forever by the planners.
