i first saw this drama in the 1980's.tim roth plays the role of trevor a disillusioned skinhead with menace and intelligence.the u.k. was in the grip of turmoil created by the recession at the time.trevors fight against the system leads him into frightening and sometimes comic situations.tim roth at his best in this drama.

I recommend this film to all fans of great British cinema and for students of youth culture in particular. Alan Clarke who also directed Scum works his gritty magic here with the portrayal of Trevor (Tim Roth) a violent and racist skinhead. Clarke avoids clichés at all times and Trevor the protagonist is articulate and very bright. He knows exactly where he is headed and progresses through the youth criminal justice system totally on his own explosive terms. It is interesting that whilst Scum periodically appears on TV; Made in Britain is rarely if ever shown. I think this may be due to both frequent and extreme racist language and perhaps the dynamics of the relationship that Trevor has with a black youth of low intelligence at the institution they share. Like all great films this piece made in the early 80s hasn’t dated at all except maybe for scenes that show vehicles that are now obsolete. A masterpiece!!!!Read full review
