I really love the way the desperation and despair of an addict in active addiction is described in this movie, and also how the solution through The 12 Steps is presented here. Michael Keaton gives a really great performance that really makes you belive that he's been out there, and that he has experienced active addiction himself. I decided to buy this DVD because I'm a recovering addict myself, and I can really relate to the story-line of this movie. The only negative thing I can think of, is the fact that there are no sub-titles on this dvd. Thanks, FriendOfJimmyK.
Excellent movie, even if it's a little heavy on the profanity. I use it frequently in drug counseling groups. Shows an addict hitting bottom and his early stages of recovery. Characters are very deep and engaging.

Michael's character ends up in rehab, but doesn't really think he needs it. Morgan Freeman is outstanding as the rehab director, and M. Emmet Walsh is the sponsor we all wish we had. You may not identify with Daryl's character right away, but you'll choke up a bit at the end.
