The poorly planned show was fraught with problems from its inception. The band unwisely selected the Hells Angels motorcycle club to provide security, and after the pre-existing chaos was fuelled by very visible alcohol and drug abuse, the bikers resorted to violence to keep the stoned, restless, and often naked crowd in line. The result: dozens of injuries and the on-screen stabbing of a young African-American man (during 'Sympathy for the Devil,' no less) by one of the concert's 'staff security.'

After a successful tour across the United States, the Rolling Stones gave a free December concert at Altamont Speedway in California with the Grateful Dead (not seen performing), Ike and Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, and the Flying Burrito Brothers (all seen performing one song each). The poorly planned show was fraught with problems from its inception. In a manipulative but effective move, the Maysles brothers and Charlotte Zwerin filmed Mick Jagger in the editing room witnessing the on-camera murder for the first time. But aside from that unexpected drama, the film also works as a rock-and-roll document, capturing the band at their most relaxed, intoxicating, and electrifying.

Arrived in poor condition. Due solely to the negligent lack of any packaging. Just placed in a grey plastic bag. Not good enough and showed complete lack of respect for the buyer and product. So had no choice but to accept the partial refund. Not happy at all! Poor service in every regard.

A great DVD for Stones fans and other music fans. A recorded history lesson of the fantastic 1969 American tour of the States by the Stones with great concert shots at Madison Square Garden in New York . Also great details of the shambolic planning and organisation of the famed Altamonte concert renowned for the murder of one of the audience by a member of the Hells Angels "security" team. If you want to hear the Stones sounding good in 1969 get a copy of 'Get Yer Ya Yas Out'. The recordings for the live album must have been heavily edited to make them sound so good compared with the performances on this DVD. If you want to know about the Altamont free concert tragedy read the published articles. The information given in this production is disjointed and poorly explained. If you want to see endless footage of a laconic Charlie Watts then buy this.If you want to hear the Stones sounding good in 1969 get a copy of 'Get Yer Ya Yas Out'.
