Arthur of the Britons is a muddy, gritty, realistic version of the Arthurian legend. No castle: just a well-defended village; no knights, just Celts struggling to survive against the Saxon invaders; no magic, just Arthur and Kai's ability to plot or fight their way out of the tightest corner. Arthur is played by young Oliver Tobias, alongside his adopted Saxon brother and right-hand man Kai, played by the late Michael Gothard. This may have been these actors' best roles, in terms of opportunities to show their full range of talents. They also did some fantastic stunt work. Love, loyalty, revenge, peace-making, jealousy and sibling rivalry are explored in this series, featuring some of Britain's best-known actors, Jack Watson, Brian Blessed, Michael Gambon and Tom Baker among them. This is one of my all-time favourites; I waited 37 years to see it again, and it did not disappoint - in fact, it was better than I remembered. I was introduced to Arthur Of The Britons when my Mother wanted to watch it (1972) and wasn't happy about until I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it especially Oliver Tobias. I am now in my 50's and watched it on youtube and smiled throughout. A fantastic series and if anyone isn't to keen on historical drama, this would make you think otherwise. Oliver Tobias remains my favourite actor to this day.

Very nice TV-series with good actors. I bought it because of pure nostalgy...it remainded me of my youth when this series was one of my TV-highlights. I am specially fond of Michael Gothard and Brian Blessed..their appearances put extra light in this production. Highly recommended!
good ripping yarn, looks like the location was the local park, ham acting atrocious dialogue, well worth 50p per episode.but in all honesty is better and more realistic than recent large budget tv efforts at the arthurian stories
