Additional Information
This Jack Nicholson-directed sequel to CHINATOWN, in some ways, is a long and dreamy epiloque to the first movie. THE TWO JAKES opens in the postwar boom of 1948 as developers rapaciously exploit the natural resources of Southern California. With his small, dingy practice expanded into a thriving operation, private investigator Jake Gittes (Nicholson) is now a card-carrying member of the bourgeoisie and engaged to be married. He still does a divorce case occasionally, however, and it is just such a case that draws Gittes into a complicated web of intrigue and corruption involving the mysterious daughter of Gittes's former lover. The film features an all-star cast, including Harvey Keitel, Meg Tilly, Madeleine Stowe, Eli Wallach, and other notable actors.

Arrived in poor condition. Due solely to the negligent lack of any packaging. Just placed in a grey plastic bag. Not good enough and showed complete lack of respect for the buyer and product. I asked for a new case to replace cracked one just offered partial refund or " return". Had me over a barrel as the CD is very hard to source and isn't cheap. So had no choice but to accept the partial refund. Not happy at all! Poor service in every regard.

  • Weak follow-up to the movie Chinatown

The Two Jakes is a follow up to the movie Chinatown. Chinatown is an excellent movie with great cinematography. The colours in the film really pop out of the screen. Just buy Chinatown and forget about The Two Jakes. It is nowhere near as good as the original film.

  • Chinatown it isn't.

I loved Chinatown. The mood was perfect, the direction was excellent, the cast outstanding, including Jack. Saw 'The Two Jakes' advertised as the sequel and bought it immediately. What a difference. They let Jack direct this one and it shows. He is a great actor but no director. To be fair, the screenplay is confusing and plot unconvincing, so no wonder the film fails. Chinatown fans; don't waste your money!
