About this product

Product Information

This slick and groovy film was born in the pages of a comic by Peter O'Donnell. An orphan who was raised by a corrupt casino owner, Modesty Blaise is no stranger to a life of crime. In a room full of thugs, she will readily outfight, outsmart, and outsleuth any of them. That is, until a longtime enemy kills her surrogate father and threatens to take control of the casino. By using any means necessary, Modesty must overpower the villains, like the monomaniacal female assassin in Quentin Tarantino's artful KILL BILL. Not surprisingly, Tarantino presents this kick-ass action adventure.

  • My Name Is Modesty (DVD)

I have read all of the Modesty Blaise books and fell in love with the characters. This movie is such a poor interpretation of who Modesty Blaise is. There is no sign of her sidekick Willie Garvin. The majority of the time the movie is in a narrative format trying to explain her origins. No disrespect to the actress but she is no Modesty Blaise, surely they could have chosen a better actress and not some willowy waif of a girl who exudes weakness throughout the movie. The few seconds of action where she attempts to behave like an action figure are so unbelievable in fact it is quite laughable. As for the so called villain, he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. This movie was shot in an incredibly short time and it shows. Definitely a low budget offering. Star rating -10. I would like ...

  • A welcome Surprise

I assumed this would be as much a travesty as the 1966 Modesty Blaise film, and bought it, somewhat reluctantly, only to complete my Modesty Blaise collection. To my delighted surprise I enjoyed it. Peter O'Donnell was involved as 'Creative Consultant', and it shows. In several places the plot does not agree with the comic strips and books, but it agrees in spirit. They were after all trying to compress Modesty’s childhood, as far as her takeover of the Louche organization, into about 75 minutes, and shortcuts had to be taken. My award goes to Bianca Tudorica as the young Modesty. Alexander Staden as the later Modesty took a bit of getting used to, but in the end she was fine. All the events being pre-Network there was no Willie Garvin. This was doubly a shame in that I have a ...

  • Sympathetic characterisation of the O'Donnell classsic

I was a bit concerned about buying this, based on the previous feature film based on the Peter O'Donnell book but this made me presently surprised. I think it's the most sympathetic work I've seen, even transferring it 30 or 40 years ahead of when the book was written. The two principal O'Donnell characters look pretty close to the book, even if the story isn't what we get from O'Donnell himself. Alexandra Staden is good as the quiet, pre-fight, Modesty and Raymond Cruz looks like I thought Garcia should. I gather the whole thing was shot in 18 days so I'm waiting for the rest of the books to be converted.

  • Be aware

there nothing wrong with the DVD per say, but the actual film is terrible. Am a great MB fan and this does nothing for the franchise.
