A lost classic amonst horror/cop-thrillers
I came across this movie along with other William Lustig films in the late 1980's, and they always had a darkly atmospheric tension behind them. Although the story-lines don't have much depth or character, these little action thrillers are great for an evenings entertainment. Maniac Cop was a difficult film to find, especially after its departure from 15 year old VHS tapes that have depreciated with age. It was never released on DVD in large quantities or distributed over a mass audience. I was quite pleased to come across this as a rare find. These old flicks were made by talented directors with a flare for combining elements from various genres to construct cult classics on lower budgets.
