About this product

Product Information

A masterpiece of black humour from the renown comic and acclaimed author of 'At Swim-Two-Birds' - Flann O'Brien. A thriller, a hilarious comic satire about an archetypal village police force, a surrealistic vision of eternity, the story of a tender, brief, unrequited love affair between a man and his bicycle, and a chilling fable of unending guilt, 'The Third Policeman' is comparable only to 'Alice in Wonderland' as an allegory of the absurd. Distinguished by endless comic invention and its delicate balancing of logic and fantasy, 'The Third Policeman' is unique in the English language.

I’m a bit disappointed because the cover of the book I received is not at all the same as advertised, although it’s seems to be the right book. Otherwise it arrived in perfect condition.

  • A creative nightmare

I am not sure whether to recommend this book .. It is very inventive, fantastic, exasperating, hysterical, unsettling, what I imagine hell could be ! It is a philosophical dissertation about death, dreams, nightmares. Very modern in thought, yet it was written in 1940, one of these writers that he will always be ahead of his time. You could compare it in many ways to writers like Kafka,Borges,Joyce. Surreal, often irracional. You may want to stop reading the book at times, but the brilliant language , with thoughts of death, dreams, nightmares will either repelled or hypnotized you. they are central sections of the story more difficult to read and more repetitive but I found that I could only leave it for a day but want it to continue and I was all the time intrigue as to how the story ...

  • The third policeman

I bought it as a gift for my son, who enjoys authors like Richard Brautican - not sure how he feels about this one yet.
