Until recent months I hadn't really heard much of Steve Hillage's music since the early 80's.. I recently purchased a best of compilation on e.bay and quickly realised that this music is timeless.. 'L' was always one of Hillage's most accesabile albums and listening to it 30 odd years since I originally bought it was quite an uplifting experience, because you know something the music has stayed as fresh as the day it was created.. The other thing that struck me, was how noticable Steve Hillage's music has been upon inflencing entire musical genres in the 80's and 90's... He was so ahead of the game back in the 70's that it's breathtaking to think it took until the late 80's before people started copying his musical styles for the clubbing generation... This wonderful album complete with 3 stunning bonus tracks just shines with class. From the opening number, a highly polished rewrite of Donovan's 60's classic 'Hurdy Gurdy Man', to the closing blast of 'George Harrison's 'All Too Much' in between there's everything from the staggering 'Electric Gypsies' to the 12 minute 'Lunar Musicl Suite'... Virgin records have also done Hillage proud with these reissues. Not only have they been beautifully remastered with the help of Hillage himself, but they are also well packaged, have pleasant informative booklets, complete with goods photos and memorabilia related to the original releases... If like me you've not heard Steve Hillage for a while, then this is as good an album to start with as any+++++Read full review
