Die kognitive Grammatik ist ein Beitrag zu den Kognitionswissenschaften, insofern die Kategorisierungsleistung und Systemorganisation der Sprache einen Zugang zum menschlichen Denken eroeffnet; sie erneuert aber auch die Linguistik, indem sie die in den Grammatiken beschriebenen Regularitaten mit Begriffen der Psychologie, der Anthropologie und der Neurologie einer Erklarung zufuhrt. Da verschiedene Paradigmen entstanden sind, wird die Darstellung in den Hauptkapiteln nach Ansatzen und ihren Initiatoren (Lakoff, Talmy, Langacker, Fillmore/Kay/Goldberg, Fauconnier/Turner) getrennt. Dadurch wird eine detaillierte Bewertung der Fortschritte und Problemzonen der kognitiven Grammatik ermoeglicht. Die Grundidee, eine semantisch motivierte Grammatik, die zu Einsichten in das (sprachliche) Denken fuhrt, bleibt dabei identisch. Der Ausgangspunkt: Was heisst Denken und wie kategorisiert die Sprache Erfahrung?, wird in den beiden Anfangskapiteln prazisiert, so dass der Weg, den die kognitive Grammatik seit etwa 1970 zuruckgelegt hat, deutlich wird. Ziel des Studienbuches ist die Darstellung der Forschungsmethoden und ihrer Resultate. Dies oeffnet Perspektiven fur die Zukunft einer interdisziplinaren Grammatikforschung.
