  • A Great Spy/War Film with a Critical Portion missing.

It is seldom that I write reviews on any film, but in this case I believe movie buffs have a right to know the situation with this Blu ray put out by Twilight Time. To begin with, this is a Great Spy/War Film and so I won't touch on the actual film, but instead concentrate on the Blu ray transfer. Whilst there is an improvement in clarity and colour when compared to the Region 4 DVD put out by MGM/UA, there is a critical scene very near the end of the film that was deleted from the Blu ray, but is present in the R4 DVD. This scene lasting some 1minute and 16 or so seconds, depicts the helicopter coming over the cliff and landing near the woman played by Kate Nelligan. Two occupants get out to comfort her. She then sees her son, safe and sound, wandering down the rocky cliff, and rushes off to embrace him. The removal of this portion of the film leaves the viewer wondering "Did the authorities ever make it to Storm Island to deal with the situation?". At least with the DVD the picture "flows", and we see the situation where the "cavalry did come to her rescue". If this scene had been part of the Blu ray, I would have no hesitation in awarding this title 5 Stars, with no criticism of the transfer necessary.
