a frightening expose' of a totalitarian nightmare.
great movie from the 1950's with a talented cast. this little gem of a movie based on the book by the same title is a toned down version of the story, yet nevertheless, is still highly entertaining. It gets the point across about how easily society can allow itself to become misled by charismatic leaders. Edmond Obrien was a solid actor who played in another great flick D.O.A. earlier in his career. Michael Redgrave was frightening as the inquisitor in this picture. I read the book in Senior High and was quite shocked at how graphic it was in its depiction of Winston Smith's authoritarian society. This version of the story is adult fare but more family friendly to watch.
