About this product

Product Information

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the photographer Eugene Atget embarked on a single-handed project to record for posterity the face of vieux Paris at a time when the city was undergoing rapid change. Atget's Paris brings together his photographs in a single volume, reflecting the scope and nature of his efforts to capture the daily life of the Ville Lumiere , and to record its boulevards and buildings. This selection of over 800 photographs, arranged by district, is concerned primarily with exteriors. Atget's views of Parisian parks and streets, mostly taken in the early morning light, frequently suggest a mysteriously deserted city, yet they have an evocative, poetic quality. The photographer's keen eye also saw the potential of architectural details such as doorknockers, trade signs, shopfronts or balconies. When he turned to people, he gave them centre stage, whether as part of the daily urban round or as representatives of the ordinary tradespeople associated with the petits metiers of Paris. Atget's aimed to preserve the picturesque and unexpected aspects of a vanishing scene, occasionally touched with sadness or with humour. His legacy, now preserved in public collections in France, London and New York, remained largely unknown outside specialist circles until the 1960s, but it is now recognized as an invaluable record of a past era.

This is my second time buying from this seller and I would definitely place another order in the future. This time I ordered three books and everything went well. The books arrived in great condition, matching the description. As always they are very carefully wrapped. The prices are great and the communication is always very kind and clear.. responses very quickly. Highly recommend this seller.

This book arrived in good condition and as described and good was good value as were the other books I ordered. Unfortunately the packaging didn't survive Royal Mails handling and this was the only book I received of five I had ordered. I contacted WeBuyBooks and they have been brilliant in trying to resolve the issue of the missing books. They are replacing one that they still have in stock though unfortunately are unable to do so for the other three so are issuing a refund for these.

This book is exactly as described and in excellent condition. I'm really pleased with the quality and the price I paid which very low and exceptional value for money. The book was very well packaged and dispatched and delivered very quickly in just a couple of days. Excellent communication throughout with the seller. Very friendly, helpful and prompt response. I have bought from this seller a few times and everything has always met or exceeded my expectations.
