Gamers use a shovel to slash enemies, unearth treasure, and bounce around classic 8-bit environments in the side-scrolling platformer Shovel Knight. Players take on the role of the titular adventurer, who travels across the land battling the Order of No Quarter and their evil leader The Enchantress in hopes of reuniting with his love Shield Knight. Each stage has its own theme and offers unique enemies and hidden areas, and most levels include new sub-weapons that can be upgraded by collecting loot. The game also includes a mission-based Challenge mode and a more difficult NG+ mode.

    NES all the way

    This is one of those games that come every now and then and change everything you thought you knew about games. it's a tribute to the old days of NES: great graphics, super cool retro sound (it can be played on the original NES!), and characters that are just lovable. it offers a nice difficulty, with a cool feeling of trial an error that rewards you for your efforts. it's one of those games you must play!

    Burnt on micro-transactions from triple-A titles Shovel Knight provides a cure and return to roots in gaming

    The game had a large following before I played it--took it based off a recommendation; It is game that pivots on getting the timing down which is not always easy and I like the challenge from a relatively small title; Its not always about triple-A titles: sometimes there gems that must be played and this is one of them. Glad to have the physical copy.

    It's a great game

    Shovel Knight is an excellent platformer. I rave about this game all the time to my friends, I love playing it all the time, and replay it all the time. When you buy the game all future expansions (king of cards and the 4 player battle royal) will be included for free with updates.

    Wish there were more compelling throwbacks like this!

    This gem had slipped under my radar and ended up being one of my favorite games in years. I find myself being drawn more to retro-style games nowadays, and less into the really long and huge 3d worlds of most modern games. Part of the reason is the lack of time, and the fact that many games take forever to beat (if they ever even have a real story) and feel too similar. I have been gaming since the 80's and this certainly reminds me of my childhood. It has the graphic style, challenging difficulty and bosses, and even the 8-bit style music! There is a lot of gameplay and value in this package, with different modes to play after you beat it, such as a full story mode with another character, and challenge maps. This game is like the love child of some of the all time classics, such as: Zelda ...
