In Blockade Runner, players take control of a fleet of space freighters attempting to deliver important supplies to Earth, only to be spotted by hostile alien ships and chased into an asteroid field. Gamers use their thrusters to avoid asteroids while shooting at alien mines and spaceships. Impact with any object reduces the craft's shields, and using the thrusters consumes gas rapidly, so players must move deftly and be sure to collect ice crystals to refuel. Blockade Runner is a fixed-screen shooter, but objects grow larger as they approach, giving the illusion of 3D space travel.
