    A Decent Mellencamp Album

    I am a Mellencamp fan and I think he is one of the better songwriters out there. Much of his stuff mostly his 80s and early 90s stuff is epic and his last two albums, A One Eyed Jack and Orpheus Descending are both quality albums so he definitely has some good more recent works out there. However, his 2017 album, Sad Clowns and Hillbillies is not quite up to par with his more recent stuff. This is really the album where you most notice that Mellencamp's voice has completely changed. His years of smoking as turn his voice much more gruff. At times, it works for the music he now does but at the same time it is hard to think about this being the same guy whose voice was on all of those classic albums you hear daily on classic rock radio.
