Well, I have had them for like 10 years. My first premium class headphones, reliable, comfy, detachable, serviceable, high-fidelity, linear, classic, you name the superlatives, all go. Benn mixing through them for couple of years with a compensating low-end EQ boost - mixes translate perfectly. Have checked Beyers 770, 880, AKG 271, Senns 800, 600 (the same driver) - to me, the balance of the 58000 is unbeatbale.

My old HD580 headphones had totally flat headband padding. Replaced with this and they are as good as new. Only took a minute or so. Great fit and now comfortable again. Well worth doing as these series of headphones are legendary and put new ones on market to shame. The product is OEM so fits perfectly.

I eventually decided to purchase some secondhand headphones from Ebay purely because of the price difference from that of similar models first hand. These Sennheisers would have cost me twice as much if I had bought them first hand. I took a while to pin point just a few makes and models of headphone that I was interested in using online product reviews from a large number of sites and then started to look for these on Ebay. I eventually chose this model because of the fact that it was pretty much as high quality as I could get without neccessarily needing an external amplifier to boost the signal of the headphones (the audiophile/super headphones will almost definately need this) I managed to find a legitimate seller with a good rating and picked up these very well looked after headphones. The headphones are VERY comfortable when worn, I often forget I have them on, the cushioning around the ear can is perfect for almost any sizes of ear and the pressure exerted on your head is just perfect. The sound is also excellent. I could not believe the diffence in sound when playing my electric piano through these headphones compared to that of a cheaper Sennheiser model. The clarity of the highs and the 'tolling' of the lows was a complete revelation for me when listening to myself play. This clarity and responsiveness also prevails when listening to music on c.d's. The bass is very present. My only quible would be that sometimes, with more busy bass heavy tracks, the bass response can be a little boomy at first, your ear will adjust however. The connectors conneecting the headphones to the cables leading off them also look heavy duty and durable, a plus for me as most of the headphones I have had have suffered because of a loose connection after too much heavy abuse and pulling. I would thoroughly recommend these. As someone who has usually gone for the lower Sennheiser ranges, the step up has been rewarding. For only £50, if I can look after these and have two (or maybe more!) years hard use out of them I will be very happy and see it as money very well spent.Read full review
the sennheiser hd 580 range is a long standing piece of equipment that been around the block for some time now, however this headphone despite its critics is a true wonder at the right setting, too loud is NOT the ideal way to use this very rare and useful audio tool, in its standard form it still picks out the faults of any mix you may be working on, or to get ideas of sounds you are looking for to replicate. there are some modes you can do to enhance certain qualitys for example follow http://apuresound.com/hdsennmod.html it shows a way to mode the headphone to allow more bass, also the hd600 metal grills can be used as an upgrade to help with the sound improvement if you so wish. in any case the hd580 offers a wide range of scope to make it a personal choice of how YOU need to use them, no longer in production they become harder and harder to find , if you happen come across some dont let them go, it is true that there are many new headphones on the market today, but in my opinion new does not always mean better. the digital age is here to stay but truthfully even now most top artists still use analog 2inch tape at 30ips to record on for dynamics which digital has a long way to beat as yet. and thats where these babys come into their own. sennheiser hd 580.Read full review
Fantastic sound. Perfectly fit to the head. Do not get tired at the long hearing. Ideal for Jazz. With a good tube amplifier win with more expensive headphones.
