Redefines “axe”
I’ve “watched” this axe head for years, and finally ordered one. It arrived (in two weeks) shaving-sharp, with a brushed finish. I carved a friction-fit handle (using the head and an easyform) from a $12 ash pick handle blank from Home Depot. The result is awesome and multifunctional. While I cannot yet confirm the [splitting vs chopping graded grind], its heavy enough for *any woodcraft. Though I once thought the handleguard looked like a welded addition, its totally in the casting, halfway+ up the head, and hardened. If you know what I mean by “HudsonBay handle failure,” this head is for you. If you wonder at the pricing-vs-use of northern axes, this head is for you. HOWEVER, unless you are keeping it in cosmoline or an oilcloth (or framed on a wall), the flash-rust means it should be laquered or blued: even after a dry-silicone treatment upon opening, it showed a pink haze next morning in the stump. (Mapsyst offers one already painted.) I will make two more handles: a short one for carving and kindling, and a longer one for notching logs while standing aloft (beam prep for my broadaxe to square). And I’ll just *try to stop looking at it, showing it around: m’lady is getting jealous.

A taste of old world, and an axe every woodsman should own!
This is just the axe head. Built in handle guard is nice, finish seems spot on for the cost. These axes are a slip fit like a tomahawk. I was looking for a bearded axe with a traditional slip fit, and I'm a user so this was not for show. I split a couple of hard wood logs after making a handle and edge seemed to hold up fine. This traditional style is great for my all around woods use. I can chop, split, and hew logs with the same tool, and being stranded in the woods if the handle breaks I can fashion a new one with out the use of fancy tools. On occasion tapping the head off to use as a hand tool is a plus that a wedge head doesnt offer. I would recommend this to a friend or stranger. shipping took about two weeks to make it from Bulgaria to Michigan in the US.This is just the axe head.
