    Worth watching. Quite battle oriented.

    This is enjoyable for light viewing. It often dwells on a narrative of personal stories to add an emotional appeal. Historically, it is far short of the Ken Burns Civil War series on PBS. It lacks much of the depth that good historians would consider for an understanding of the culture and causes supporting the various actions of the conflict. The colored film of reenactments are visually strong but lose some of the impact of the panning of original black and white photographs of the original events that were used in the Burns presentation. The music could have been stronger to give a better period feel. Still, this was a better than average presentation of the American war against the Confederate insurgency.

    History Channel Presents:The Civil War

    This set has good and bad points. It is both enjoyable and entertaining, but left a bit to be desired in the actual historical fact depth. Although we did get one new tidbit from it. Enjoyed the reenactments and the depiction of the different battles. Any Civil War Junkie will enjoy having this in his or her collection. Nice item..packaged and presented beautifully.

    ALWAYS WONDERED HOW AND WHY WE, AS A NATION CAME ABOUT TO DESTROY OTHER HUMAN BEINGS FOR THEIR WEALTH AND POWER WE BROKE AWAY FROM A NATION THAT DID THE SAME THING, SO WE COULD LEARN NOT TO DO THE SAME THING!! SEEMS LIKE WE NEVER DID LEARN ANYTHING WORTHWHILE.

    History Channel Presents: The Civil War

    The dvd is perhaps lacking in detail for more seasoned Civil War Buffs, but would be alright for people being introduced to the topic. The reenactments were very good and it gave a simple outline of the war. Historians may note that some important details were left out, of course we should understand that the period was confusing and that writers and producers only have a small amount of time to cover a five year span. If you want to learn about the Civil War, this will certainly get your feet wet. If you are a war buff or historian, enjoy the reenactments, but don't expect to learn anything new.
