Eye opener, tearjerker, and triumph!
Just as much, as you fall in love with the girls, and the women in this movie, you feel what they want you to feel, they set the stage, as if you were there, you understand them, I can't imagine any other girls, or women playing these rolls, they did an amazing job. The men in this movie, do such a good job, at making you dislike them, to almost pure hatred! My heart went out to these women, and I longed to slug the men! This movie depicts what is supposed to be a simpler time, and it was, but no better, women back then lead a life of hell, at the hands of unfit men, who didn't know any better, but I love how sweet the revenge was, and how pure the love was, and the scenery, it really takes you to another time, and place, there is not much left anymore. I love this movie, and I always ... Outstanding performances and story.
I've always loved this movie. Whoopie stole my heart in this role and after watching it recently, I saw in the credits "introducing" Whoopie Goldberg. So apparently this was her first movie role. Oprah also has a great part and is very impressive as is Danny Glover. Overall it's an awesome film that follows a theme of female suppression by a husband that applies to all races, but told specifically from African American viewpoint.I've always loved this movie. Excellent Black film.
I ordered this film during Black History month. I found this film very informative about the plight of Black people in the South, and how women were treated as 2nd class citizens. The quality of the DVD was excellent, however I was disappointed I was required to flip the disc in mid film, to view the rest of the movie. 11 Academy award nominations and not a single win. This movie is so honest in reveiling the truth about what happened(s) in so many families from decades ago where no one was allowed to tell and if one did no one did anything to protect the innocent(s) to even current times where we now are taught and told to tell someone. Sadly those times of protecting the innocent may have improved somewhat but it is far from what really needs to be done to protect the innocents. Absolutely every actor chosen to be in this movie has done a tremendous service in their acting to bring to the screen an ugly truth that occurs throughout the world past and current. Gripping in all the emotions it touches upon. So sad to think and know this has and continues to happened in so many families. I'd like to think for those of us who have survived such ... We need more of these fearless people amoung us.

I have always wanted my own copy of the Color Purple, being that it's my favorite story of the love of two sisters, and I always missed not being able to see it when I wanted to, so now I can and the picture is so clear which makes it so much more enjoyable! Thank You!
