My home is two-hundred yards from the shores of the Pacific Ocean yet one will not ever find me swimming in or above the sea. I spend my time on the shore where there is dry land. Perhaps I am a "Land Shark" akin to something from Saturday Night Live. My sea is a sea of oxygen and as such I needed a watch that I could count on, observe the dials' minute and hour hands very quickly while knowing I have a dependable watch I can see extremely well at night...a watch that conveyed strength with confidence along with steadfastness and serious attitude. This watch does that and more. The sweeping hand bridges the chasm between those who prefer mechanical watches and those who want the accuracy and dependability of a quartz...and a quartz that is revolutionary in its construction with a 279,000 vibrations an hour absolutely producing accuracy to 15 seconds a year. Bulova..takes diving through life on land to a new level.Read full review

Being advanced in life experience (which is "PC" for saying I'm old) I've always had a weakness for quality time pieces got from my father I suppose. At that time there was no such the as quartz movement it was hand wind high tech was self wind automatics, Great manufacturers such ss Longines Whitinauer, Omega, Hamilton to name a few. Accuracy was relative then springs winding and unwinding small cogs and gears wearing jewels served as bearing surfaces. Pardon the pun but over time the would cease to be accurate and servicing them on a regular schedule didn't come cheap. Then the advent of the quartz age battery powered technology that would bring stellar reliable accuracy in a time piece that even then a regular guy could afford. But the ugly dirty reality that made it different and nearly unfathomable to bring oneself to own was the staccato "tic...tic...tic" of the second hand. Anyone that is truly appreciative of watch craft will tell you the same the sweep second hand is a fluid beautiful thing to behold. Whomever is responsible for the design and engineering of the UHF movement on the Bulova Sea King is an absolute fn genius and deserves a huge raise with stock options and a corner offce. All B.S. aside this watch is fantastic it keeps phenomenal time and is rugged big and damn good looking . May buy another because every time I find something I really like it gets discontinued.Read full review

The negatives first: This is a BIG, heavy watch! If you have a small to medium-sized wrist you may find it uncomfortable to wear. For those with medium to large wrists, you will love this watch! The styling exudes ruggedness, and with 300M watch resistance it is indeed a bomb-proof, super tough diving or field watch. The lume is outstanding, comparable with the best Seiko lume. The simple, unadorned face with highly contrasting hands make it easy to read the time both day and night. The stock band is nice, but I recommend replacing it with a quality NATO band so you won't lose your watch if a spring bar breaks. Although this is a quartz watch (and highly accurate) the second hand has a very smooth sweep comparable to the best mechanical watches. This is just a flat-out cool looking watch and I highly recommend it to someone with larger than average wrists who wants/needs a watch that can stand up to any abuse you can throw at it.Read full review

Bulova hit a Home Run with this watch! It is beautiful and very functional. I love the smooth movement of the sweep second hand, moves like a mechanical watch - not the jerky, jumping motion of other quartz watches. For a large, heavy watch it is very comfortable and stays in place without having to be too tight . The deployment clasp works very well and does not pinch when closing. The dial is very easy to read and the luminous hands and markers are very bright after exposure to bright light. The fit and finish is excellent, no sharp edges and the band does not pull hairs on my wrist. I own several watches and this is now my favorite!

I am pretty particular about my watches but this one's quality was much better than I expected. It looks and functions perfectly. Too bad they no longer make it in unplated stainless steel which wouldn't scratch. This ion plating looks sharp but a small test on one of the links I removed for sizing shows it doesn't take much to scratch it and unlike bare SS, you can't buff out the scratches. But having said that, the watch is absolutely amazing in appearance and function. Love the sweeping second hand! The lume is terrific also.
