About this product

Product Information

The 'Swinging Sixties' were a concoction of many things that brought Britain to the forefront - England winning the World Cup in 1966, mini skirts and mini cars, the Beatles and Twiggy. This was the permissive decade when the contraceptive pill became available, 'Lady 'Private Eye' and 'Oz' magazine rattled the cage of authority. Above all, the Sixties will be remembered for the birth of British pop music, Carnaby Street and fashion, a new dance called the twist and the moment in 1963 when President Kennedy was shot. AUTHOR Since the 1970s, Robert Opie has amassed an unrivalled collection of packaging. He is the author of numerous publications and has given many talks to schools, as well as on radio and television. ILLUSTRATIONS colour throughout

    Nostalgia Trip at your fingertips

If you were born in the late 1950's then you must get hold of this book and wallow in nostalgia - toys, household goods, package holidays , ice lollies, sweets, music, pop groups - they are all there. My favourite - a page devoted to sweetie cigarettes - every popular singer/cartoon / TV character had their own sweetie cigarette product - even SOOTY! ( on his packet he is actually smoking a fag - now how does a glove puppet do that ? the 60's - what a time to be alive ! Buy this book and live it all again.

  • Brilliant scrapbook of 1960's memories

Ideal item to encourage discussion and memories. The book is rather long in height, which may be problematic for some older people to hold, however, using a table or movable trolley can resolve this. The contents are great, bold colourful images which are engaging, there is some small print which those with poor eyesight may need help reading but overall, it is a brilliant scrapbook full of pictures reliving memories to those living during this time, plus giving knowledge to those who were not.
