I'd listened to demos of the Mid-fi Tape Demo Fuzz and thought "cool. Mild fuzz to totally overdriven tape sounds all with a 'lo-fi' sheen that fits what I'm trying to do with my guitar sound these das." The trouble finding one of those Mid-fi to demo and the $200+ cost were concerns though. Then along comes this build. I could justify the flyer on the cost and probably get most of my money back if I don't dig it. Only I do fig it. A lot! All the low-fi funky fuzz sounds I sought were here in abundance. With bass and treble dials, I can also achieve even more versatility then I would have imagined. Probably my favorite surprise is how good a Big Muff sound I can get from the pedal and how well that sound can cut through the mix thanks to the treble dial. I have a Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian on my board that is an impeccable pedal. Only I think I could probably sacrifice that lovely pedal for this 'clone' that can meet my sludgy Muff needs while simultaneously hitting my low-fi needs, mild fuzz needs, and my 'amp is about to explode' needs. The Mid-fi clone may be a tiny bit less heavy overall than the muff, but cuts so much better and enough more versatile that it's a great choice for that realm of sounds. Mild overdrive might better come from elsewhere and I wouldn't turn to this for Marshall crunch, but that's OK. I love it for both what and how much it does. Build quality seems good too. I haven't done a 'gut-dive' but on the outside, it's pretty strong. Knobs turn easily with no electronic crackle. I think the knobs feel less substantive than most of the bigger builders stuff, but not enough less to cause worry. I'm tossing pedals in a backpack and hoping for the best each time I play out and have both a board and case for the pedalbard. Foots witch seems good and reassuring when stomped on. Works fine on 9 volt from an isolated supply (Voodoo Lab pedal power), but quiet high pitch whine when Daisy chained on a One-Spot. I'm still delighted with it and give it a strong recomendation, especially for the price.Read full review

One of the most versatile and incredible fuzz boxes around! You get sounds from classic to insane and everywhere in between! Bought the hand painted version of this pedal in used condition, and considering that Zach Vex himself warranties his hand painted line "for as long as [he is] on the planet", all would be fine if something was wrong with the pedal. The version I have is from 1990, which runs only on 9v (and lasts for a long long time, unlike other pedals) and has no "On" LED (just like old Fuzz Faces and other classic fuzz tones). This pedal delivers a creative palate of tones, and has proven it's usefulness both in studio and live. Even adjusting your guitar's output level drastically changes the fuzz. Keeping that in consideration, this does take a good amount of tweaking to get the perfect sound you are looking for, but with the Fuzz Factory's versatility, you can create a sound like no other. Using the Gate, Comp, Drive, and Stab, you can effect every aspect that makes fuzz boxes a legendary guitar staple. With the Drive and Gate down, Stab all the way up, and Comp in the middle, you get a nice classic fuzz tone made famous by Jimi Hendrix and so many other guitars of the 60's. Crank up the Drive and Gate, and you get modern, buzzy fuzz, defined by 90s grunge. Dial back the Stab and the Comp, and you start getting into insane territory as it begins to self oscillate and wail all on it's own. And from there you are deep into your own sound and you are the mad scientist turning the knobs to create something monstrous. Like so many Z.Vex effects, this pedal is built to last. A very simple design and small foot-print, it can fit on any pedal board. Simply put; this is the Factory of Fuzz!Read full review
This pedal is no nonsense, with no sassy graphics or paint - just quality parts and a solid build. It functions and sounds EXACTLY as intended, and my fuzz pedal is endless fun to play with. I come up with a great new sound every time I mess with it. Not just cool noise either, lots of very usable tones for leads and rhythm work. Could not be happier, and I wont hesitate to buy pedals from these guys in the future.

This is a ghost rider of a pedal. Hope you like your amps cranked! Mate it with a vintage Aussie amp, and its giddy up time. Looking forward in trying it with a Fender. Pretty good with a Marshall. It's a 21st century fuzz pedal. A welcomed addition for my sound palette. We've got a lot of the ZVEX range, and enjoy them all. Use your ears and eliminate the unnecessary movements in your guitar playing; because a female doesn't enjoy having her feet stepped upon during the dance. Learn the classical guitar, there your key awaits for removing the unnecessary. Ajmo!

This pedal is amazing! I received it today, messed with it for at least an hour and a half, and still haven't explored all the settings there is. This pedal can do just about any fuzz tone. The only slightly negative thing I can say about it is, it takes some time tweaking the knobs for certain fuzz tones. I am definately going to write down some settings I like and I would recommend any other person who buys this to do the same. I've read some reviews and some people don't like the sound of the fuzz but that's probably because they didn't sit down long enough and really mess with it. It was fun just playing around with the different sounds. At the least, it will be an effective tool for competing with the neighbors crummy karaoke to mexican music. :) This pedal isn't as pretty as the hand painted ones, but in my opinion, a effect pedal doesn't need to be. I haven't tried the hand painted ones out, so I don't know if there is truly a difference between that and this vexter series, but form the research I have done there is none. I would strongly recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a fuzz pedal. A bit pricy, but well worth it.Read full review
